Windayi River Camp is a Wild Bush Luxury property, please visit our website to learn more about our philosophy and style - Wild Bush Luxury

On the eastern side of the Kimberley, Windayi River Camp is the perfect launch spot for a journey across Australia's greatest wilderness region. Here the story is of the mighty Ord River and the pioneer settlers who in the 19th century made one of the greatest cattle drives in history. It is the story of arguably Australia's most remarkable fish, the barramundi, for naturalists and anglers alike. More recently it is the modern day story of the Ord River dam & the Argyle diamond mine. This is a place of space and wilderness of hardy wildlife and even tougher people.

Windayi River Camp offers 8 spacious cabins perched on the flood-banks of the Ord River. The main lodge area affords spectacular views towards False Rooftop Hill and lies close to Rooftop Hill, made famous in the film 'Australia' as the location for Faraway Downs homestead (long since removed from the site).

In true Wild Bush Luxury style, rooms have been designed with the surrounding bush uppermost in mind - in keeping with the camp's wilderness setting, modern appliances are kept to a minimum, however, supremely comfortable beds, an en suite bathroom and a private deck overlooking the river provide a haven from which to enjoy the sights and sounds of the bush.

In true Kimberley style this is a place of huge adventure and guided boating experiences reveal huge crocodiles and a multitude of bird life and some of north-west Australia's best barramundi fishing.

On foot and by vehicle there are vast spaces to be explored, long lost rock art to be discovered, scenic vantage points to be reached. From Windayi it is possible to include visits to Lake Argyll and the original Durack homestead as well as scenic flights to the Bungle Bungles or over the range and wetland country near Wyndham.
